Theme

Is the high street dead?

There have been numerous recent media reports concerning the demise of retail property and the 'death of the high street'.  Do you think this is true though and what might you envisage for the future for this type of property?

Prize

  • £1,000 and the opportunity to present the key themes of your essay at the 2019 OxRES conference

Eligibility

  • Entrants will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the University of Oxford as of  1st November 2018

  • Part-time students are eligible to enter

  • Team entries are permitted. Maximum of 4 members per team

Timeline + Process

  • One-page proposal in Word format outlining the key themes of the essay (guide of 100 words) will be submitted before midnight on 15 February 2019 to competition@oxres.org

  • The panel will select a small number of entrants (less than five) to proceed to the next round. This decision will be communicated to all entrants on or before 22 February 2019

  • Entrants admitted to the next round will be assigned a mentor, who will be a professional currently working in the real estate sector, with whom entrants will be able to arrange one 30-minute call. During this call, the professional will provide guidance on the draft essay and seek to answer any questions

  • Entrants admitted to the next round will be asked to submit their final essay of not more than 1,000 words by 15 March 2019

  • The panel will communicate the winner to all entrants shortly thereafter

  • The winner will present their presentation during the OxRES 2019 conference on March 20 2019

Other

  • OxRES reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to amend the terms of the competition and/or to disqualify any entrant as it sees fit
  • The panel’s decision will be final
